Salt in the soul

Italian Documentary

The documentary tells the lives of Sicilian fishermen, specifically in the locations of Porticello and Aspra, and the figures that revolve around their world. The focus of the project is the intimate, discreet, and passionate exploration of the fishermen, their villages, and their love for their land—a warm and fragrant Sicily.

The story narrates the daily life of fishermen, sometimes solitary, in their rituals and difficulties. A community that develops on the sea and transforms into legends, pagan rites, and sacredness.

The fishing fleet of Porticello is the largest in terms of the number of boats in Sicily, though it is less known compared to that of Mazara del Vallo. Porticello boasts a local tradition characterized by the absolute freedom to work without being tied to large multinational fishing companies, maintaining a fishing community with a strong local character.

With this documentary, I wish to pay homage to Maestro Guttuso, born in Bagheria, one of the places where some scenes were filmed. I have found today the same locations, the same atmospheres, colors, traditions, and characters that the Maestro painted, and I have incorporated in some scenes the names and situations inspired by his works.
